Rest and Recovery?

Should we rest and recover?


How about if I feel in the zone?


I'm too scared to rest because I might have a day off and it will throw me.


I don't ever rest, I don't see the point.


These are all comments I've heard about resting. There seems to be a fear that if we rest it's going to make us lazy!!

I can tell you now... THIS IS NOT TRUE.


Rest and recovery is important in our fitness journey. We need to ensure we let our muscles rest and recuperate so we can grow and come back bigger and better on training days. So please don't be afraid of rest days.


If you're unsure what a rest day looks like.... it doesn't mean you sleep all day and don't get out of bed haha


A rest day is a great way to focus on a wellness session. Instead of your normal gym session take the hour to do something mindful.

Maybe a walk

A meditation

Some breath work

Journaling

Reading a book

Having a soak in the bath

Watching your favourite film

Listening to a podcast


(You don't need to do all of these, they are just some examples :))


Just take a moment for you. Your fitness journey isn't just about your body it's about your mind too.


So take a rest day and enjoy it. Then come back to your workout days and push even harder knowing your body needed the rest it deserved.
